Facebook is the world’s largest and most popular social networking site and is growing more in popularity each day all over the world. Sadly, despite the potential of this to help to bring the world’s peoples together in a harmonious location, there are countries that are blocking it and causing people to look for a way to access Facebook in Vietnam on Mac, PC or other gadgets.
Vietnam Blocked Facebook in 2009!
Back in August of 2009, the Vietnamese government played a part in blocking Facebook and causing its users to scramble for a way to access Facebook in Vietnam on Mac, PC or other gadgets. When questioned on their reasoning for doing so, the Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Nguyen Phuong Nga confirmed that it was done because various Internet sites had been misused to put out data that was in opposition to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Vietnam and therefore threatened its security.
He further confirmed that access to Facebook in Vietnam on Mac or other devices was blocked because activists had created a Facebook page that opposed Vietnam’s multi-billion dollar bauxite mine in the Central Highlands.
Internet is very popular in Vietnam
Vietnam has one of the highest rates of Internet use in Southeast Asia, with more than 25 percent of the population using some form of Internet. Things like blogging and gaming are the most popular. Free Wi-Fi is common in places like suburban cafes. Especially due to the booming tourist industry, Wifi in Cafe's, Hotels, Hostels, and public meeting points is very common.
However, during the last few years, some bloggers have ended up in jail because they were charged with cyber spying and hacking into government sites. This was the start of the reasons that made them block access to Facebook in Vietnam on Mac or other Internet capable devices. All public Internet computers in the country were said to have had spy software installed to monitor any other such use by sometime in 2011.
